TO BE OR NOT TO BE...THAT IS THE DRIVER

Being Decides Results

3-Minute Read

What's Inside:

Hello Friend!

You’ve followed the plan.
Hired the coach.
Read the books.
Implemented the systems.
And still, your results are missing the mark.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m doing everything right, so why isn’t it working?” you’re not alone.

It’s not what you’re doing, but who’s doing it.

Before you adjust your strategy or tactics, you may need to update the one element rarely talked about in leadership: your way of Being.

Werner Erhard said it bluntly: “Who you are makes a difference and what you do doesn’t matter.”

Sounds outrageous, right? But he’s pointing to something ancient and essential: your way of being precedes every action you take. In fact, it sources every action you take.

This week in The Grip, we’re returning to the first principle of extraordinary results and why, until you address it, you’ll continue to fall short of what you really want in life.

Let’s dive in.

THE REAL REASON BEHIND HO-HUM RESULTS

Think of a bathtub overflowing with water. You grab towels, mop the floor, yell for help, all while the faucet’s still running.

That’s how effective it is to address Doing before addressing Being. Most people stay stuck because they’re correcting downstream issues while ignoring the source that’s generating them. You can try every tactic in the book, but if your action is driven by scarcity, strain, fear, etc., your results will reflect those limitations.

High-performers obsess over action:

  • What should I do?

  • What should I fix?

  • What should I build next?

But few stop to ask the deeper, transformative question: Who am I being that’s creating this result?

The most effective creators don’t just tweak what they do. They upgrade who they are. Before dealing with the action taken, you must deal with its source: the Action-Taker.

BEING: The True Driver of Action

Let’s simplify it: Action drives results, and Being drives action.

So, if you’re not getting the results you want, the first lever to examine isn’t your strategy or tactics; it’s your state.

Your way of being is the invisible architect of every decision, every conversation, every move you make. Here’s the exciting part: Being is always up for reinvention. It’s not bound by your history. It doesn’t require proof.

You can choose a new way of being at any time:

  • You can choose Thriving Health even if your habits have been chaos.

  • You can choose Loving Relationship even if dynamics are tense or you are single.

  • You can choose Financial Freedom even if your account balance says otherwise.

A new way of being bursts into existence instantly through conscious choice and then materializes through integrity of action aligned with it.

Before dealing with the action taken, you must deal with the Action-Taker.

BEING: The Context That Changes Everything

When creating from an outdated way of being, action is effortful. You push, grind, force the outcomes; and it’s exhausting.

But when your actions are fueled by a new, empowered way of being, something remarkable happens:

  • You stop creating from circumstance and start creating from choice.

  • You stop determining your future by what’s worked in the past and start generating what’s never worked before.

  • You stop chasing outcomes and start mastering process.

This isn’t wishful thinking. It’s how extraordinary leaders create the impossible.

In our previous issues of Mediocrity or Mastery and Unlock Your Creation Mastery, we introduced this principle: In the order of creation, being comes first. Always.

If you want to create what you’ve never created before, you must become who who’ve never been before. This is your invitation to return to that source.

The shift in who you’re Being isn’t about finally achieving what’s already possible yet just out of reach. It’s about liberating you from the constraints of what’s possible in the first place, which recalibrates and empowers you to create the impossible instead. It’s a whole new world.

We’ll continue to go deeper on Being and Action in future issues of The Grip. This week, practice generating your own shift with these three questions:

  1. Where at work or home am I not getting the results I desire?

  2. Who have I been that created those results? Response-Ability, not blame 😉.

  3. Who do I need to be instead to generate new results?

Notice the new possibilities for action that emerge from these simple questions and put them to work in your life. You may be surprised by the clarity and power that show up when you do.

Keep creating!

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  1. What actually drives results when tactics fall short?

Your way of Being—not your strategy—is the foundational driver behind every action and outcome.

  2. Can you change your results without changing your circumstances?

Yes. By choosing a new way of Being, you shift your relationship to action and unlock new outcomes.

  3. What’s the first step to creating unprecedented results?

Shift from focusing on what to do and start with who to be. Then align your actions with that new identity.
